Benedictine Academics

Benedictine is accredited by the Ohio State Department of Education and the North Central Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges, and the Ohio Catholic School Accrediting Association. Each student carries a minimum of 6 credits in each semester.

Graduation Requirements

To receive a Benedictine diploma a student must pass Ohio’s State Testing requirements.  As well as successfully complete a minimum 25 credits which includes:

  • 4 years English (requiring 1 year American literature and 1 year of British literature)
  • 3 years Social studies (requiring 1 credit World History, 1 Credit U.S. History, and 1 Credit U.S. Government)
  • 4 years Mathematics (requiring the completion of Geometry and Algebra 2)
  • 3 years Science (requiring Biology, Chemistry and Physics)
  • 2 years the same Classical or Foreign Language
  • 4 years Theology (1 for each year of attendance at BHS)
  • ½ year Health 
  • 1 year Physical Education
  • 2½ credits elective courses
  • 1 year Fine Arts
  • ½ credit Computer Applications I
  • 25 credits Total

Academic Honors

Students will be designated at each semester grading period for the following academic honors:

  • Summa Cum Laude: 4.000 & above GPA
  • Magna Cum Laude: 3.600-3.999 GPA
  • Cum Laude: 3.000- 3.599 GPA
