Statement from Benedictine High School – Our Commitment to the Community
One of the many pride points at Benedictine High School is our longstanding commitment to a diverse population and the value of learning from each other. We often boast that our population is a cross-section of the City of Cleveland using hashtags like #BHSisCLE. That commitment to our city’s families spans over 90 years.
Benedictine believes in our value of respecting each other and working for a just society. In the wake of peaceful protest and civil unrest sparked by the numerous deaths of black citizens across the country, most recently that of George Floyd, the core values of our school, city, and country have once again been challenged.
In times like this we go back to our foundation and urge our families and neighbors, black, white, and all shades in between, to be inspired by our motto of Ora et Labora: pray and work. We will pray that hearts will be softened, and we will continue to work to help people find common ground within our school community, our neighborhood and our city. We will pray for the end to violence, and we will work to heal those who have been wronged and injured. And finally, we will continue to pray for peace and work for justice for all of our Brothers and Sisters in Christ.
As an anchor in this city, we have helped rebuild it before. And we plan to do it again. Together. #BHSisCLE
